Japan's data infrastructure set to burst in 10 years?
NE Asia Online has an interesting article about the increase in data communications traffic in Japan and the potential bandwith crisis coming.
If a technological innovation takes place that increases the capacities of communications lines or improves the throughput of communications equipment, the crisis of communications infrastructure could be avoided for the time being. However, this scenario is not likely to occur in Japan. Because the price of communications services in terms of per bandwidth used by clients plunged to very low levels due to a severe price-cutting war, the domestic data communications traffic has increased sharply in the past 10 years. This makes it hard for telecom companies and communications equipment manufacturers to gain profits from the communications service itself.
