New Vodafone 3G handset

v8012s.jpg
First real 3G handset offering from Vodafone Japan, the dual WCDMA/GSM Sanyo V801SA. Has a neat slide-out keyboard design and a 300k pixel camera that shoots stills and video. Another attraction is global roaming (including web browsing and photomail) that covers the USA, China and Europe, which is a first for a phone released in Japan. We're doing our world traveller thing here in London at the moment and the viable cellphone options if you're going between here and Japan seem to be hire (expensive) or pre-paid (dies after 90 days of disuse and needs reactivating), so this is good news.

It also has 3D stereo speakers on the front, which sound fun (where to use them, though? Our phones are on vibration mode permanently.)
