See your message in lights
Yamaguchi prefecture's new Center for Arts and Media has an interesting project going until November 24--send a text message via the web site (link is to English version) or your cellphone and it will be "encoded as unique sequences of flashes with 20 robotically-controlled searchlights" that beam whatever you wrote into the sky above the center, then email the recipient to tell them that there's a "message waiting for them in the sky of Yamaguchi". There's a live video feed from eight webcams available too.
Unfortunately the mystery and wonder of the spectacle is undermined slightly by the fact that the message currently being projected is viewable in text form (if you read Japanese) at the bottom of the webcam feed.
