International cellphone video calls
| Via Keitai Watch (Japanese), DoCoMo has announced (press release in Japanese) that from October 1 it will be possible to make video calls internationally to Hutchison 3G users in the UK. I would imagine the potential user base is limited, but it's another small example of doing something with 3G phones that doesn't fall into the "same as 2G--but faster" category. | ![]() |
[Update]: The Mainichi Shimbun reports (article in Japanese) that DoCoMo was demonstrating this at the WPC EXPO 2003 in Chiba, a massive exhibition of all things digital and technological (photo above). The plan is to expand the service to other countries in which Hutchison 3G operates (Austria, Sweden, Australia, etc.) in due course.
