"Magic tweezers"

magicaltipJapanese firm OG Tech (site is Japanese only) has developed a useful-sounding but hard-to-categorize product they refer to as "magical tweezers". It's not the kind of whizbang gadget-with-a-USB-drive that we commonly feature here, but anyone who has to handle small components or model parts may be interested.

The Magical Tip is a small pole with a tip made of very fine sponge material, the bubbles of which are formed into tiny suction cups. This means that, irrespective of the material, you can pick up any reasonably smooth object. The upshot is that the days of tweezers and screwdrivers with magnetized heads are numbered. Probably.

Comes in two models, 5mm and 3mm in diameter, which sell for a trifling Y300 and Y220, respectively. The 5mm version comes with nine spare heads, while the 3mm suckers come three to a pack.

On sale now in Japan, though we're at a loss to suggest how you would get hold of them from overseas.

[Have lost the link to where I found this; looks like I'm in good company...]
