DoCoMo flat-rate data plan to be Y3,900...with a catch

Japan's state broadcaster NHK today reported on the details of DoCoMo's flat-rate data plan, rumours about which have been flying around recently. According to NHK the plan, which will be available only for the 3G FOMA service, is to launch in June at a cost of Y3,900. The pricing for the pack alone is competitive--rival KDDI offers a similar all-you-can-eat option for Y4,200--but there's a catch. DoComo will apparently only make it available to users on its FOMA Plan 67 (Y6,700 per month) or above, meaning a monthly bill of Y10,900.

We would note, however, that heavy users are likely to be happy with this arrangement--we pay about the same at the moment for a semi-flat-rate data plan and a calling package that's one notch cheaper than the Plan 67.
