mp3 toilet

Technological marvels that they undoubtedly are, we've steered clear of Japan's toilets (on this site, at least) because they've been done to death in all sorts of isn't-Japan-wacky reports from way back. However, this nondescript-looking model from INAX has one feature that we have to mention (aside from the usual jets of water and warm winds): an SD memory card slot and stereo speakers. Yes, this is a toilet on which you can play your favourite mp3s; when you draw near the seat flips up automatically and the music starts (there's even a remote control to skip between tracks).
Digital running-water samples have become standard issue on the high-end models these days to, well, mask the noise, but we wonder if building in a music system may not be taking it a bit far.
Out April 1 in Japan; expected to cost Y300,000.

Posted by: jef on February 7, 2004 06:10 PMThe best prank ever would be to swap out the SD card with one containing an mp3 of Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back".
