What to do if you wash that mini USB drive

The Mainichi Shimbun has a piece that may come in handy if you inadvertently leave that stocking-filler USB drive in the pocket of your Santa suit and it ends up in the wash. They claim that soaking your sodden drive in absolute alcohol for about 20 minutes and then drying it with a hairdryer on the cool setting will return it to full health. They apparently did this with an empty drive; no telling what would happen to data should you find yourself in the position of trying to resuscitate a drive with something stored on it.

The same procedure has also been known to work on drowned cellphones, apparently.
