Mikan-sized TRON PC

tcube.jpg
Via Slashdot-J and the Asahi Shimbun, startup Personal Media has announced a new 165-gram, 5x5x5 cm PC running the TRON operating system. Available in a variety of colours, though orange has to be the choice given its mikan-like size, the T-Cube has no fan or hard disk, but comes with wordprocessor, mail software, web browser, web server and so forth installed, and has slots for memory and WLAN cards, a USB port, etc.. The target is production-line management and other situations where the lack of moving parts and consequent reliability is a plus, but they are also hoping to sell it to businessmen who need something portable, though since it's a "mini-desktop" they will presumably also need a screen, mouse and keyboard waiting for them wherever they go.

Another point to make is that this is a 100% Japanese gadget, down to the semiconductors and the CPU (made by NEC Electronics). (At "under Y200,000," however, it's pushing our definition of "gadget" a bit.) Bigger picture here.
