PSX fixes coming
Sony has announced the first of the firmware fixes for its PSX, the specs of which it abruptly changed just prior to launch in order to get the machine in Japanese shops for the end-of-year sales. This round of updates, which will happen in late February, raises the hard disk --> DVD recording speed to 24X, allows the display of TIFFs and playback of mp3s, adds a few video functions, and fixes some bugs. For those in Japan who've already bought one, you can upgrade online, or get hold of a free CD at retailers or by signing up at the PSX homepage (Japanese only).
Further upgrades planned for March include DVD+RW playback and recording, support for GIF images, playback of movies from Sony's Cybershot cameras, and compatibility with the PlayStation BB online service. We hope they won't stop there and will continue to upgrade the PSX with new features, rather than just fixes.
