Cellphone-->PC IR interface

This is cool in a sense, though we're not sure why we would need one: A miniature cellphone-to-PC infrared interface from IOData that plugs into the USB port on your computer. Cool in that you can beam images from phone to PC and back again with ease, but we're not sure why we would need one now that those killjoy cellphone manufacturers have gone and put external memory cards in virtually every camera phone on the market and then, for the coup de grace, made sure that PC card adapters and readers are available for them too.
Still, card adapters and readers are not cool, and this is. The spec also suggests that you may need an export permit to take it out of the country (wha?), giving it a further sheen of glamour.
Posted by aragoto at October 28, 2003 03:40 PM | TrackBackThese megapixel phones are quite ironic in the sense that the file sizes are too large to use on the phone/radio networks. What's the use if I cannot send pictures immediately at a reasonable price?
But if this AU/KDDI CDMA 1xrtt stuff is really 4200 yen a month and 2.5Mb/sec, and unlimited bandwidth, then it wont matter even if the cameras have 2Mp cameras.
The other thing to remember is that phones are all about conserving battery life, whereas cameras are about image quality. Those two goals are diametrically opposed right now, which is why many of these 1.3MP cameras have crappy resolution. The camera cant do any post-processing and clean-up as they dont have the horsepower.
