Next, "DoCoMo Update"?

Via Internet Watch (Japanese), DoCoMo has developed a system for downloading bug fixes to handsets' firmware. Details are unclear as yet, but they're characterising it as something like Windows Update. Not a great surprise in that they already had the back-end to do this in their retail outlets, developed to avoid having to do endless product recalls. The potential new aspect is that DoCoMo may use the system not only to nix bugs, but also to upgrade the phone's firmware. How voluntary this will be is apparently still being debated.
