Robot fish with muscles

Yomiuri On-Line (Japanese) is carrying an article on a robot fish that uses a polymer actuator--a simulated "muscle"--to move its tailfin, rather than the motors that have been used so far. Maker Eamex says it intends to apply this "artificial muscle" technology to the medical realm in future, with one idea being a powered suit that could be worn by elderly people to support a weakened set of muscles. With luck they can also develop a superhero suit for the rest of us who just want to leap tall buildings in a single bound occasionally.

The fish goes on sale next month for about JPY16,000.
