Blundering and consequently digitless yakuza now have prosthetic assistance for their return to mainstream society in the shape of real-looking artificial fingers (MDN: Plastic pinkies help yakuza sever ties with underworld). Osaka-based Arute, a workshop that uses techniques from Hollywood special effects makeup, produces a wide range of body bits including toes, ears, noses, breasts and, cryptically, "areas around the eyes" in silicone, duplicating the shape, colour, wrinkles, and even texture of the original. They overlook the obvious contradiction that if one possessed an undamaged original to work from, it would likely still be attached. Wonder if the yakuza keep their severed digits.
